Hadoop for the Modern Age: DataMetica

Datametica

Recently at an AITP ( Association of Information Technology Professionals) interest group meeting it was my good fortune to meet Dr. Phil Shelley, Founder and President of DataMetica who had held the Chief Technology Officer role as Sears just a few years ago.  He had pioneered the Hadoop movement there where it has evolved and sprung to become DataMetica – a 300 strong company in less than four years.  We discussed the emerging landscape big data – how his experience has transformed the industry and its largest players – Amazon Web Services and Google.

Where companies like Teradata with their structured data warehouses and schemas were the giants of the data world the ground swell to Hadoop has effectively rendered their bloated business models ineffectual and really too expensive.  The joke around our table was that perhaps it was a good time to “short” the TeraData stock.  For more insight and info on company see them at DataMetica
